TATE GALLERY
The Tate which holds the greatest collection of British art in the world, including works by Blake, Constable, Epstein, Gainsborough, Gilbert and George, Hirst, Hockney, Hogarth, Moore, Rossetti, Spencer, Stubbs and Turner, has split its collections to create two new galleries.
Tate Britain shows the collection of British art from 1600 to the present day. It has a facelift and a radical re-hang, showing pictures thematically and not chronologically. It is well-worth a visit.
Tate Modern, in the beautifully converted Bankside Power Station, recently opened to international acclaim. One of the world's foremost modern art museums, it houses the Tate's collection of international 20th century art and exhibits new work.
Both free but charge for some special exhibits.
