BANQUETING HOUSE
This fascinating building offers a haven of tranquility amidst the bustle of Westminster. Designed by Inigo Jones in 1619, the Banqueting House is all that survives of the Palace of Whitehall, that was destroyed by fire in 1698.
It has been the scene of many historic events including the execution of Charles I and restoration of Charles II. Features include magnificent ceilings painted by Rubens in 1635 and the Undercroft, where James I used to retreat from the commotion of court life.
