Windsor Castle and Runnymede Tour
Windsor Castle Tour
Located near London, Windsor Castle overlooks River Thames. From William the Conqueror to the current Queen, many monarchs have been living there and left their mark. Queen Elizabeth II spends some weekends in Windsor Castle or comes around here for state affairs or her own entertainment.
That's why this castle is the longest occupied castle in the world. All over the centuries, it was submitted to many changes: divided into marvellous apartments or armed to face attacks, you will admire the various traces of History.
Your tour includes the entrance to the castle, discover St. George's chapel, Queen Marys Dolls House and explore the surrounding areas. The city of Windsor itself is a gorgeous town full of traditional shops, old pubs and many other attractions. Shakespeare himself is said to have written his play "The Merry Wives of Windsor" in one of these historical pubs!
Then head to Runnymede where King John signed the Magna Carta, the Great Charter of English liberties, in 1215. Outstanding flora and fauna and riverside meadows, the area is very pleasant. Lady Fairehaven presented Runnemede meadows to the National Trust in Memory of her late Urban Hanion Broughton, a Famous English civil engineer.
John F. Kennedy Memorial and various memorial trees bear witness to the importance of the place in world history. Here you also will be able to find the Fairhaven Lodges and Kiosks, designed by Lutyens, one of which is now an art gallery. The birthplace of the Magna Carta and the meadow of Runnymede, this is absolutely worth a visit to the pleasant village of Runnymede.
